Edison partners with Amazon to build digital twins of its wind farms

Europe’s oldest energy company announced a new step of its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in a bid to accelerate its internal digitalization process.

Edison, one of the largest energy companies in the Italian market, has announced a new partnership with AWS (Amazon Web Services) aimed at accelerating the company's digital transformation process.

Starting in 2020, as part of a broader cultural transformation operation, Edison has already launched a training programme about AWS cloud skills. Now the partnership is getting into full swing, with a new stage in the journey that takes advantage of AWS's broad portfolio of services to digitise large portions of the business, starting in particular with the production of renewable energy.

By creating a corporate data lake and relying on machine learning services such as Amazon SageMaker, Edison has deployed a cloud-based model of the company's wind farms, called "Wind Digital Twin". The goal is to optimise maintenance and accurately predict the energy production levels of each farm.
