The electromechanical lock by USM Modular Furniture

The Swiss company implements the famous modular system, USM Haller, with a design element that makes it easy to secure one’s personal belongings.

When we think of USM Haller, super-organized spaces come to mind, marked by the chrome tubular structure of the system designed by architect Fritz Haller and Paul Schärer. The highly recognizable style of the Swiss manufacturer, which combines classic beauty and adaptability, now has a new design element that looks to the future. It is the new electromechanical C lock for securing one’s personal belongings. Thanks to dual technology (RFID and Bluetooth), it can be easily operated using a magnetic key or smartphone through a specially developed app.

“In order to keep up with the times after more than 50 years, we need to come up with something new: new components, new functions, small but refined additions that offer users solutions matching the needs of the moment and even more convenience, designing the realization of smart furniture with an eye always on the future”, Thomas Dienes, Group Product Development Director, said.

The design of the lock is compact, linear, and recalls the shapes of the original version, here revived in a contemporary key. There are three versions: Public Locker, Personal Locker and Shared Locker. Ideal for temporary use, the Public Locker is designed for environments where there is a need for flexibility, such as swimming pools, gyms or coworking spaces. The Personal Locker is designed to protect documents or personal belongings in offices, but also to create secure and inaccessible home environments. Finally, the Shared Locker is perfect for lockers shared by several employees, but also a way to allow, via an app, access to third parties in the absence of the owner.

The Lock C can also be installed on existing USM furniture to maintain backward compatibility. In addition, if the key is lost, the solution is simple: RFID and Bluetooth technology allows for emergency opening and obtaining a new magnetic key.
