After 50 years, Sacco by Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro is still revolutionary

For the 50th anniversary of the armchair, Zanotta presents Sacco Goes Green, produced with ecological materials and exclusive patterns designed by Pierre Charpin.

1969 was a year of great social transformation, a phase of protest and desire liberation, in which even design had to adapt to the new lifestyles of a modernity that soon became irreparably liquid. Three young and unknown architects from Turin - Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro - prototype a seating that follows that movement and expresses the ideals of creativity and freedom that animated that period: it is a transparent vinyl bag filled with two thirds of raw granules of expanded polystyrene, which soon became one of the classics of Italian design.

We hope that 2019 will be remembered as a year of agitation and a turning point towards a new ecological sensibility. To adapt to the times and not lose the revolutionary spirit with which it was born, the iconic armchair produced by Zanotta for its 50th birthday is renewed and looks to the future. On the occasion of the Brera Design Days 2019, the company presented Sacco Goes Green, three new series of 100 pieces made with ecological materials and exclusive patterns designed by Pierre Charpin.

Synbra's BioFoam® microspheres – a biodegradable and compostable bioplastic (PLA) made from sugar cane – replace the high strength expanded polystyrene (EPS) pellets of the original design. The inner and outer shells are made of Ecolyn, a regenerated nylon thread made from fishing nets collected from the seabed, scraps of fabric and industrial plastic. From January 2020, Sacco Goes Green will be definitively included in the Zanotta catalogue, with the same eco-compatible materials as the limited edition, and with a solid-colour external covering, available in various colour variants.
