Launched in 2016, the original Xiaomi Mi Mix was Philippe Starck's first smartphone. It made quite an impression thanks to an almost bezel-less screen – now it's quite the norm, 3 years ago it was something that seemed to come from a remote future. Now Xiaomi launches a new Mi Mix, the Alpha, which features a wraparound screen: the front, side and back of the phone are almost entirely covered by the “Surround Display”, as the Chinese brand defines it. To achieve such an incredible result, a new method of assembly was conceived, and display layer, touch panel and protection layers are all laminated one by one, while the body is built in titanium, lighter and more resistant than stainless steel. There's also a new acoustic technology which replaces the traditional earpiece receiver and an innovative wide-angle to telephoto camera with a 108MP sensor. Xiaomi aims to start small-scale production for device at the end of December and retails at RMB 19,999, which is more than 2500 euro.
