IKEA’s SONOS controller looks like a minimal hockey puck

The speakers Symfonisk, co-created by the two companies, are getting a new minimal remote to let you control volume and playback with a finger.

IKEA is going to add another product to its Symnfonisk line-up, which so far includes the “bookshelf” and “lamp” speaker developed in partnership with SONOS. It’s a remote control that can be connected to the existing Symfonisk speaker to start, stop, and pause music playback and turn volume up and down. The small device (5cm in diameter, 1,8 cm in height) looks like a hockey puck: to control the volume you can simply spin the knob with a finger, while it can be pressed to control the playback. That’s really all there is to its functionality. Most users will keep the Symfonisk remote on a desk, a sideboard or a drawer, but if you’ll feel like sticking it to the fridge or to a doorframe, you can do that thanks to the magnet glued at the bottom of the disc-like device. It will soon be available in all IKEA stores for just 14,99€.
