Opus Campers and Nissan Energy have joined forces to create the new Nissan x Opus trail camper that uses second-life batteries from old Leaf cars for power. The carmaker’s so-called ROAM battery pack is the centerpiece of the trail camper. It’s a “portable, all-in-one, weatherproof battery pack” meant to repurpose old lithium-ion cells from previous generation Nissan EV cars. The battery pack has a 700Wh capacity with a 1kW power output, and it enable a luxury off-the-grid camping experience. It can be recharged with a dedicate 400W solar panel in 3 to 4 hours, or in just under one hour by plugging it into a normal electric outlet at home. The X Concept features also a microwave, two gas-based burners, a rack for two bicycles and a mount to carry a kayak. With a light daily use the battery can last up to seven days of camping. Price and availability of both the Nissan x Opus camper and the ROAM battery pack have yet to be announced.
