Google’s Pixel 4 and the new iPhones will look ugly in the same way?

According to the latest rumors both Apple’s and Google’s new smartphones will feature an aesthetically questionable square camera bump with three lenses and a flash.

Last Wednesday, with an unusual move, Google has officially confirmed that its next generation of Pixel smartphone, expected to be launched this autumn, will feature a triple rear camera fitted within a rounded square bump. “Well, since there seems to be some interest, here you go!”, read a tweet by the company’s hardware division, published after some credible leaks had already been published by the usual cohort of YouTubers and online publications. The tweet included a picture with two smartphone silhouettes featuring the much-rumored and aesthetically questionable rear bump.

Surprisingly enough, that’s exactly the same solution that Apple is gonna implement on its iPhone 11 series (pictured above in a fan-made rendering), according to a deluge of iPhone rumors we saw in the past months. What’s really curious about the Google self-leak, though, is that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are probably still coming in October, while Apple’s new series will debut earlier, in September.

Maybe Google wanted to anticipate their Silicon Valley competitors, while making the public acquainted with the horrible rear square bump solution that no designer in their right mind would ever deem acceptable. “Wait ’til you see what it can do”, concluded Google in its tweet. And while you're at it, maybe try to unsee what it'll look like.
