To celebrate the 500th anniversary of Tintoretto's birth, light designer Alberto Pasetti Bombardella has valorised the masterpieces of the Venetian painter located in the Sala Capitolare at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
The lighting redesign intervention was made possible by iGuzzini, the technical sponsor of the project, which with the Light is Back programme promotes the enhancement of the Italian historical heritage.
The Sala Capitolare has a unique history: an agreement was signed between the Master and the School in 1575 whereby, in exchange for an annual pension of 1000 ducats, Tintoretto would deliver three large paintings each year, on the occasion of the celebration of San Rocco.
The hall is therefore one of the painter's privileged places of expression, where he was able to serenely express his vocation and his religious sentiment. The space contains a total of 33 paintings: those on the ceiling represent scenes from the Old Testament, while on the walls there are episodes from the Gospels.
The lighting system designed by Studio Pasetti restores colour unity to the room and enhances its decorations and architecture.
The iGuzzini lighting management system allows you to adjust the luminous intensities of the individual lighting points and specific areas, enabling the overall enjoyment of the paintings or the creation of different interpretations.
With a sensitivity to the pre-existing elements, the system has been installed in three main areas: inside the historical floor lamps designed by the artist Mariano Fortuny (1871-1949), for the ceiling illumination; on the wall, above the wooden ridges, for the lighting of the vertical canvases, the stone biforas and the wooden allegories; on the floor, in front of the altar, for the illumination of it.
