Filigrana. The The glazed lampshades by Established & Sons

The light touch of Sebastian Wrong: a classic Murano blowing technique used as an anti-decorative function, like a Zen practice.

It comes without a technological baggage this new Established & Sons Filigrana lighting collection. I use “technological” to gather “smart” and “touch” words that so much space they occupy in contemporary design, under one giant umbrella. And God forbid. It’s progress, darling! However, what a sudden pleasure when, with a new design project we can go back talking about 16th-century. Not about, therefore, the day before yesterday, of decades looted to the bottom by the vintage culture, but about the century where Renaissance ruled. Did you, by any chance, miss it? Of course not. But Sebastian Wrong instead seems longing for it, and not only for using a glass blowing technique born excatly at that time, with which he had the good heart to name his lamps. But also because it represents a link with his artistic direction return at Established, back after five years with a new range of products.

Keeping in mind that filigrana, the technique, since that day on Murano island when coloured stripes were rolled into the glass surface has never been out of fashion, it must be said that the glassmakers involved by Wrong for filigrana, the technique agian, had succeed in lighten it up to a clean balance of symmetry and accident. And with those red stripe on white to give the surface a lollipop tastiness. After all, if it’s not blatantly vintage, it’s the sweet memories of childhood years that gives contemporary design its substance. In this century it works this way.
