How Moleskine transformed a psychiatric hospital into a design object

A notebook, a pill and a series of pocket journals draw inspiration from the beds of Shanghai’s most iconic mental health institution.

Moleskine has unveiled a new collaboration with the Shanghai Mental Health Center, Shanghai’s leading public psychiatric hospital, known locally as No. 600.

The collaboration is connected to the exhibition "Hey, Let’s Walk Together: Stories of Care", hosted at the No. 600 Gallery, the hospital’s in-house exhibition space, but its focus lies in the development of a series of co-branded Moleskine signature items.

Among them is the Emotional Care Large Notebook Set: a large-format notebook with a blue-and-white striped fabric cover and a “No. 600” patch, which visually recalls hospital-bed aesthetics through colors and materials typical of clinical furniture.

Alongside the notebook, the line includes a pin featuring a rotating graphic element inspired by brain activity, a pocket notebook set with structured pages, and a small charm inspired by hospital plaques.

The project is part of the cultural outreach program through which the Shanghai Mental Health Center complements its clinical work via the No. 600 Gallery, while Moleskine continues a broader exploration of writing and design as tools for individual and collective reflection.
