Among the many new products unveiled at CES 2026, the world’s most important annual tech fair held in Las Vegas, Lego also announces an unprecedented innovation that introduces a significant evolution to the world of its bricks. It is called Lego Smart Brick, a 2 x 4 brick that integrates smart functionalities and modern technologies, making it different from its bigger brothers we have seen so far in the various sets launched by the Danish company. It features interactive LED lights, a speaker that can reproduce sounds, an accelerometer, a scanner capable of detecting the surrounding colours, and a silicon ASIC chip (4.1 mm in size) as well as a “brain” able to learn and process external impulses to trigger certain actions. Everything is managed by Play Engine: a system that can detect orientation, movement and magnetic fields through copper coils incorporated into each piece, while power is supplied by a battery that can be recharged wirelessly simply by placing the brick on its dedicated charging base.

However, the Smart Brick 2x4 — this is the name for the Italian market — is not the only innovation unveiled, as the newcomer is part of a larger ecosystem called SMART Play which includes two other products: Smart Tag, 2 x 2 studless intelligent tiles that communicate with the Smart Brick so that it can understand the context in which it is being used, allowing it to take on a specific role during each play session; and Smart Minifigure, interactive characters that react to the intelligent brick with different sounds and moods. “The launch of Lego Smart Play blends creativity, technology and storytelling to make building worlds and stories even more engaging, all without a screen. We firmly believe that we’ve set a new standard for interactive and creative experiences and we can’t wait to see this innovation in children’s hands at launch later this year,” said Tom Donaldson, Senior Vice President and Head of the Creative Play Lab at Lego Group.

The debut of these new products is not far away: on March 1 three new “All-In-One” Lego Star Wars sets will be available (starting from €69.99), including one Smart Brick with charger and at least one minifigure and one Lego Smart Tag.
