‘Why are an internationally renowned photographer and an Italian company with over seventy years of experience in the wood industry working together?’ This was the question posed by Stefano Zecchi, former professor of Aesthetics at the University of Milan and well-known commentator on the Maurizio Costanzo Show, during the presentation of the exhibition Materia e Visione (Matter and Vision) at the Rovati Foundation in Milan. The answer is simple: both Busnelli and Galimberti are from Meda, a town in the heart of Brianza that is renowned for its furniture production and high-end craftsmanship. Companies such as Cassina and Paola Lenti have their roots in this area. Today, a project conceived in collaboration between Busnelli, photographer Maurizio Galimberti and art director and architect Carlo Colombo recounts part of Meda's history, linked to the value of craftsmanship, in the spaces of the Padiglione dell'Arte. Open from 5 to 9 November, the exhibition displays a selection of works produced by Galimberti using photographic mosaics made from Polaroids — the same technique he used for portraits of celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Sting, George Clooney and Achille Castiglioni, who forged a lasting connection with Meda through Cassina and Flos. "Photographing Busnelli's wood was an encounter between two crafts, woodworking and photography, which speak the same language," explains Galimberti. He organised the photographic project by first immortalising the raw material — the trees — and then moving on to the textures designed by Colombo and the portraits of the protagonists of this story: the Busnelli family and those who collaborated on the project. Following the exhibition, all 35 works will be displayed in showrooms in Meda, Milan and India.
This time, Maurizio Galimberti's famous photographic mosaics tell the story of wood
The internationally renowned photographer, who is known for his portraits of Hollywood celebrities, has collaborated with Busnelli International on a photography exhibition at the Fondazione Rovati. The exhibition is open until Sunday only.
