Dr. Martens new shoes are made from reclaimed leather

Dr. Martens has introduced the Genix Nappa collection made from processed waste leather scraps to create innovative leather with a lower environmental impact and capable of preserving the brand’s fundamental qualities. The leather scraps are collected from tanneries and subjected to a process of fiber separation before being re-aggregated, producing a roll of re-engineered leather that is then used to produce the new footwear. Genix Nappa thus offers a more sustainable alternative to traditional leather without compromising on its characteristics: durability, comfort, and longevity.

Since 1960, the brand’s slogan has been “Made Strong”, and longevity has always been one of the key points of sustainability for objects, especially clothing. The new collection marks another step in this direction for the brand, which is committed to implementing various circular economy processes to reduce waste and move towards the goal of becoming a zero-impact company by 2040. The collection consists of remakes of Dr. Martens’ most popular footwear: the 1460 Boot, the 1461 Three-Eye Shoe, and the 2976 Chelsea Boot.
