Mecanoo and Meng Architects, in collaboration with Lola Landscape, won the international design competition for Shenzhen Guangming Scientist Valley.
Located between the Liantang and Lou Village Reservoirs and the valley space between them, the project aims to create the first major national science center in the Greater Bay Area, attracting researchers and talents from around the world.
The design proposed recalls the natural characteristics of the site, surrounded by mountains and water, and it’s developed around the concept of the “Scientific Forest” and the “Valley of Coexistence”.
Encompassing an area of 1,2 square kilometers circa, the masterplan incorporates three interdependent components: a public loop, a research center, and a natural perimeter layer. A public activities program will be hosted in order to promote collaboration between visitors and scientists.
