MAD unveiled the first visuals of Qondesa, a mixed-use tower for Quito, the capital of Ecuador, on the eastern slopes of the volcano Pichincha. The project will feature an organic facade, with planted balconies, and a bright external structure, recalling the color of the surrounding buildings, often built in volcanic rock.
Located next to the 67-hectare Parque de la Carolina, the project will be developed according to eco-sustainable standards and once built will become the tallest building in the city, taking the title from Iqon, the tower designed by BIG.
“Qondesa’s exterior facade emulates twisting vines weaving around the building to taper at its top, and sprout greenery which form planters throughout the building's balconies,” MAD said.
