During a live press conference from the Zodiak Pavilion in Warsaw, the European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe revealed the names of the seven finalists competing for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture 2022 - Mies van der Rohe Award, five in the Architecture category and two in the Emerging Architecture category. The announcement was made by Witold Naturski, acting head of the European Commission Representation in Poland, assisted by Magda Maciąg, curator of the EU Mies Award exhibition.

The finalists in the Architecture category are: 85 Social Housing Unit, Cornellà de Llobregat, by peris+toral.arquitectes; Frizz23, Berlin, by Deadline; la Ferme du Rail, Paris, by Grand Huit and Mélanie Drevet Paysagiste; Town House - Kingston University, London, by Grafton Architects; and Z33 House for Contemporary Arts, Design and Architecture, Hasselt, by Francesca Torzo.

The two finalists for Emerging Architecture are the Enrico Fermi School designed by BDR bureau in Turin, and La Borda - Building Cooperative by Lacol in Barcelona.

The projects were selected by the Jury to represent new models and points of reference for local city policies. They address new management models based on community and circular processes of sustainability. “The quality of the built environment and the need to take care of its development needs to be communicated in a very broad way: to the public, of course, but also to decision-makers,” says Jury member, journalist and curator Francesca Ferguson. “More than ever there is a need to convey how we want to live in our cities and discuss it with decision-makers in a transdisciplinary way that includes the civic engagement of society and those involved in community design and thinking.”

The final award ceremony will take place on 12 May 2022 in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona, while the winner of the Emerging Architecture Prize will be announced at the end of April.
