On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2026, Domus returns to Politecnico di Milano on April 22 at 5:00 pm for a conversation with Ma Yansong—founder of MAD, Domus guest editor for 2026, and one of the most influential voices in contemporary architecture.
The Chinese architect will deliver a lecture titled “Architecture Is Not Architecture,” focusing on a radical rethinking of the discipline. The theme runs through his editorial project for Domus, challenging conventional definitions of architecture while opening it up to new cultural, social, and emotional dimensions.
In his work, Yansong explores the possibility of restoring a harmonious relationship between people and nature, moving beyond the divide between the built environment and the landscape. His projects—from Harbin Opera House to the Absolute Towers—reflect a research-driven approach that weaves together organic forms, technology, and imagination, proposing a vision in which cities, society, and the environment can return to balance.
Organised by Domus and Politecnico di Milano, the event will be introduced by Emilio Faroldi, Deputy Rector of the university, and will feature a conversation with Walter Mariotti, Editorial Director of the magazine.
Appearing in Milan for the first time in this role, Ma Yansong will present his poetic and experimental vision of space in person, offering a timely opportunity to reflect on the future of architecture in a moment of global transformation.
The event takes place on April 22 at Campus Leonardo, Aula Magna Giampiero Pesenti (Trifoglio Building), with admission starting at 4:15 pm.
