This twenty-thousand-euro butler robot can even make coffee

Neo is the new humanoid from 1X, designed to handle household chores with a voice, movements, and body similar to those of a human being. It costs twenty thousand euros and brings AI into domestic work.

Just a few months remain until the debut of a new helper for household tasks and more. The Californian company 1X has opened pre-orders for Neo Home Robot, a humanoid robot capable of providing automated assistance and even performing the everyday tasks a home requires.

Its debut is scheduled for next year, and when the first users receive it, they will be able to control it with a simple click or directly via voice. Using the Chores function, it will be possible to assign tasks and specify the time at which they should be completed.

He wears a white jumpsuit and is able to turn lights on and off, fold laundry, arrange the bed, open the door for guests, serve a cup of coffee, or clean the bathroom, all completely independently.

Equipped with a head, upper and lower limbs, Neo has a human-like appearance. Its soft body is made from 3D lattice polymer structures, weighs around thirty kilograms, wears a white suit, and can turn lights on and off, fold laundry, make the bed, open the door for guests, serve a cup of coffee, or clean the bathroom—all autonomously and quite quietly. In fact, it operates at a noise level even lower than that of a modern refrigerator.

Thanks to an integrated large language model, the robot gives owners access to knowledge and personalized assistance without relying on external screen devices such as a smartphone. It also serves as a virtual companion, allowing natural conversation and providing information of all kinds, including fun facts and entertaining stories.

However, there are still limitations. According to Bernt Børnich, CEO of 1X, speaking to the Wall Street Journal, the AI neural network used by the machine is not yet capable of handling some more complex tasks. Therefore, those who purchase Neo next year will need to accept that a remote operator may observe their homes through the integrated cameras in order to control the robot remotely and train it to perform new tasks. Owners will have an app to schedule remote interventions and specify which tasks they want to be done, indicating any areas of the home that the operator should not access.

As announced by the manufacturer, Neo Home Robot will be available in the United States and can already be pre-ordered in light brown, gray, and dark brown by placing a two-hundred-dollar deposit. Early access with priority delivery can be obtained by purchasing it for twenty thousand dollars (about seventeen thousand euros), and a subscription model at four hundred ninety-nine dollars per month (around four hundred thirty euros) is also planned. Availability will expand to other markets starting in 2027, though it is not yet clear if Italy will be included.
