Once again, Milan is preparing to host a new edition of the Salone del Mobile, the event that transforms the city into the world's epicentre of design for a week. This year it will take place from 8 to 13 April.
Maria Porro, president of the Salone, introduced this year's theme, "Thought for Humans", emphasising that for design, "the starting point is always the sensation, the human being who experiences space". From the stage of the Piccolo Strehler Theatre, the Mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, underlined the indissoluble link between Milan and the Salone: "There is an extraordinary link between Milan and the Salone, which can be seen in the desire to look ahead and in the idea that here we can understand the trends of our future life, but above all in solving the problems that arise."

In the city, some of the most eagerly awaited events will be organised directly by the Salone. The highlight is Mother, the installation by Robert Wilson - one of the world's most important theatre and visual artists - dedicated to Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini, which opens on 6 April at the Castello Sforzesco. I studied architecture in my first year: on my first day, Louis Kahn spoke and said that students start with light,' said Bob Wilson in a video broadcast during the presentation of the event.
Light will be the protagonist of this year's 32nd edition of Euroluce, which, in addition to dedicated exhibitors, will introduce a new feature: the forum 'Light for Life. Light for Spaces'. The aim is to "talk about the culture of light", involving architects, designers and others in a dialogue on the various aspects of lighting design.

But one of the main novelties is the intervention of the director, who takes up the baton from David Lynch, who took part in the fair last year with an installation and who has left us this year.
Paolo Sorrentino and 'La Dolce Attesa' will be among the protagonists of this edition. "The idea I had was to dismantle the stylistic features of the classic waiting room and create a place where waiting is deceptive. Hence the idea of creating a space that does not force us to sit on a chair, but rather makes us travel," explains the director.

The presentation was also attended by interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, who will present Villa Héritage in Halls 13 and 15, a project born from his direct experience of the Salone del Mobile: "The Salone is a crazy experience every time. There is the past, the present and the future", and this is exactly what the designer intends to create: a place where design is a universal and timeless language.
Finally, a new series of meetings will take place in the Arena, designed by Formafantasma, which, with the Drafting Futures project, will once again be the focal point of the entire event. Discussions on Next Perspectives and SaloneSatellite, which gives space to young talents but focuses on craftsmanship, will also continue this year after its 25th anniversary.
