The dog sitting service is now offered by some Italian museums

This project is real and aims to increase the number of pet-owning visitors to museums, addressing separation anxiety and… guilt.

Anyone who owns a dog knows that pleading, forlorn look that anxiously follows us whenever we step out of the house alone, heading to places that are not pet-friendly or structurally unsuitable for accommodating dogs. To avoid this forced separation anxiety and relieve owners from the burden of guilt, some Italian museums have decided to offer a paid dog-sitting service, allowing visitors to explore exhibitions and museums without worrying about their pets.

The service, provided by the company Bauadvisor, is already operational in 53 Italian cities and 290 cultural sites, including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Zaha Hadid's MAXXI, the Egyptian Museum in Turin, the Ducati Museum in Bologna, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Pirelli Hangar Bicocca in Milan, the Galleria d’Italia in Naples, and the National Archaeological Museum in Verona. To take advantage of the initiative and ensure the availability of dog sitters on the chosen date, visitors simply need to book via Bauadvisor's website or app.

Additionally, starting January 12, 2025, the initiative has been expanded with the Dogs & Museums Road Show, a 15-stop promotional tour across 15 Italian cities. Inaugurated at the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome, the tour will feature one free-to-participate event per month until April 2026.
