Domus 1025 on newsstands

Domus June 2018 – titled “Fabbrica Italia” – continues the journey begun last year in discovery of Italy and its outstanding features. This issue’s guest editor is the architecture historian Fulvio Irace.

The issue of Domus – titled Fabbrica Italia – is truly special. Not only because it continues the journey begun last year in discovery of Italy and its outstanding features, but also because it has not been edited by Michele De Lucchi. In fact, this issue’s guest editor is Fulvio Irace, an architecture historian and professor at Milan Polytechnic.

View of Italy, in La geografia a colpo d’occhio: ossia primarie nozioni di geografia storica e statistica, esposta in 16 tavole, plate. XVI, F. Corbetta editore e litografo, Milan s.d. [1853]. Boston Public Library, Norman B. Leventhal Map Collection

In the “Landscapes” section, the photographer Guido Guidi interprets the landscape that stretches along the edges of a cycle-pedestrian path, which was recently donated to Pesaro by the IFI firm, as testimony to its close bond with the local area. Amongst the selected “Companies”, the Giorgetti firm – founded by Luigi and guided in its development by Carlo – has been a network of design, professionalism and production for 120 years. With an archive containing artisan know-how and the foresight of perfect forms. One of the best Italian “Factories”, Toscanini has developed a standard modern archetype in 4000+ permutations to indulge the very contemporary need of personalisation. Presented in the “Foundations” section, the Fondazione Prada’s Torre in Milan is the landmark of the future city.

The Arcipelago Italia annex is a collaboration between the Venice Biennale and Domus. Among a string of other initiatives celebrating its 90th anniversary, the magazine wished to experiment with an innovative format by accepting an invitation from this year’s curator of the Italian Pavilion, Mario Cucinella. The Ceramic architecture supplement presents the latest innovations of Cotto d’Este. The company manufactures special, aesthetic products with an artisanal feel in large formats, from extra thick to ultra thin.
