Erika Hock, born in Kirghizistan in 1981, has studied story in Münster, visual arts in Düsseldorf and applied arts in Ghent. After Antwerp, Cologne and Brussels she comes to Milan with a solo show on her peculiar way of seeing design, space and art.
The exhibition “Performing Domesticity” at the Rita Urso Artopiagallery in Milan places side by side her latest works, as for instance her Lamps series, to her first varnished steel tubular series Elbows and Knees. Hock turns familiar design objects into abstract suspended fragments within the space. The colour and material selection speaks of fashion, while the sinuous shapes attract the visitor who is welcomed to interact with them. The objects lose their very functionality and become animated, as figures of the living space who seem to explore new shapes and aspirations.
