Air Deluxe

Helen Evans and Heiko Hansen were selected by Casino Luxembourg for their temporary installation Air Deluxe a metaphor on how clean air has become utopia for most cities.

Following the Luxemburgish artist Max Mertens’ Swings project (2016), the Casino Luxembourg – Forum of Contemporary Art invited seven international artists to take part to a competition run by the Association Rue Philippe II in collaboration with the City of Luxembourg.

For the 2017 edition, a panel of judges selected the temporary installation Air Deluxe by HeHe, which represents a sky filled with “clouds” formed using ventilation pipes. These clouds are a metaphor which in many cities of the world has become a luxury feature. In their work, the Anglo-German artistic duo Helen Evans and Heiko Hansen (HeHe) address the problem of air pollution as well as our unrealistic, utopian desire to control nature and climate change. The work also has a direct link with their recent publication, Man Made Clouds, on clouds created artificially by humankind (smog, smoke, radioactive clouds etc.).
