Portonaccio house

Designed by studio NA3 in Rome, this apartment features a continuous, equipped panel in raw iron and wood, thought as a double wall that branches out into three spatial axes.

The interior of this duplex is located in a newly erected building in the Portonaccio neighborhood, in Rome. The connection is the main focus: a continuous, equipped panel in raw iron and wood, thought as a double wall, with branches out into three spatial axes to thicken the consistency of one of the main building components.

The primary element of the bare interior is the concept of limit, intended as a delimitation of a boundary or a corner. Raw, hard iron and noble, ductile wood compensate each other through all the spaces; they call their reciprocal destinies with a rhythmic score and dialogue in synch, revealing their essence. As a minimalist musical track, apparent seriality brings out the uniqueness and unrepeatability of the single details, even if in minimum changes.

In the master bedroom, the central, fixed position of the wardrobe divides and separates the private space, creating different functions: partly path and container, and partly headboard and server. The oak floor is designed to bring out the resident’s paths along the iron panels; the large framed windows to introject and then revert the feeling of discovery and astonishment instilled by the urban landscape. The spaces are fluent, detached from pre-built or outdated models.
