Penguin Shop

The coloured retail space by Toronto-based design firm figure3 is designed to maximise the experience of discovery and delight within an economical floor plan.

Figure3 was tasked with designing a retail space that is a clear departure from a typical book store. Instead, the brief was to allow for exploration and education about everything the library brand has to offer.

The design maximize the 15 sqm footprint. Applying the instantly recognisable Penguin Classic book binding motif to a suite of cupboards and pull out pantry-style storage, everything from stored merchandise, display and point of sale can be revealed and discovered during the customer journey. The store is anchored by backlit graphics while floating shelves in the window allow for a constantly changing display.

Above all else, the store is designed to be flexible and adaptable to allow for a full complement of events; everything from book launches to ‘meet the author’ style events can take place within the environment.
