Lapitec and its applications

A technology partnership with Breton has given rise to Lapitec®, a dynamic startup that can create a ceramic product with advanced technical and aesthetic characteristics.

Lapitec® is a young company that is an offshoot of Breton – a leading manufacturer of systems for working with stone materials and natural agglomerates – that has developed exclusive technology and knowledge and supplied the equipment for developing the innovative slabs of sintered stone all-body sold under the name Lapitec.

Lapitec® slabs are ideal for rainscreen facades and ventilated systems mechanically fixed. Thickness commonly used in rainscreen facades slabs must ensure resistance to the entire structure. Lapitec® is produced with calibrated thickness of 12 mm, to be mechanically fixed in exterior cladding, offering a lightweight and resistant application.

Lapitec is distinguished from other mineral agglomerates present on the market by its production process: sintering is a special thermal treatment (in other words at high temperature) that transforms a powdered material into a solid material. It is a process of firing that fuses together the mineral powders that make up the material.

Lapitec® has been used in the building of the manufacturer’s own headquarters at Vedelago (TV), designed by architects Fabrizio Bettiol and Francesco Pascali, providing an excellent way of showcasing the product. For the exteriors – from the boundary wall to the signage, paving and benches – large-sized sheets have been used, playing on a strong colour contrast that emphasises the geometric lines that run along the facade: the ivory with Vesuvio finish of the projecting elements stands-out against the grey with satin finish specified for the parts in the background, laid continuously with the glazed surfaces. Lapitec® has been used for all the ventilated facades, thanks to the fixing systems housed on the rear of the panel, invisible from the front.

Lapitec® tiles in full-body sintered stone combine high levels of aesthetic quality with large dimensions and elevated physical-mechanical properties, combining the potential of technical porcelain with the consistencey, workability, colours and finishes of natural stone. Produced in thicknesses of 12, 20 or 30mm, a single tile has a dimension of 3,365 x 1,500 mm for the 12 and 20 mm thickness – and of 1,460 x 3,365 mm – for the 30 mm thickness.

The huge format ensures a high degree of flexibility to architects, that are free to design every kind of application even with complex or unusual shapes.

The surface of the tile is non-porous, non-absorbent and resistant to bacteria and mould, as well as resistant to acids and solvents, frost-proof and unaffected by UV rays.

High resistance to weather conditions and effective high-friction coefficient of “Fossil” and “Vesuvio” textures, make Lapitec® perfect both as cladding for swimming pools and as swimming pool surrounds.

Lapitec® is a natural product, composed of minerals (feldspar and kaolins) whose colours are obtained with the addition of natural pigments; it does not contain petroleum derivatives and can be disposed of as inert product. These characteristics make Lapitec tiles suitable for numerous design applications of various kinds.

Lapitec® slabs are the perfect solution for interior wall cladding, doors, vertical and horizontal surfaces, with a modern and functional taste. Lapitec® sintered stone slabs are ideal both for covering very large areas and architectures with custom design, offering a cladding solution with inconspicuous seams.
