Chris Ware in Bologna

An invasion of comics throughout the city that starts with an anticipation of exhibitions and meetings already in the previous week and an extension of the exhibitions for over a month, with the ambition of making of BilBOlbul the main event at European level in the context of contemporary comic and research.

  This objective fits the special project promoted by Fondazione del Monte and Unicredit, the first italian exhibition dedicated to Chris Ware, one of the most famous and influential cartoonists of today. The encounter with Art Spiegelman, the consecration with the series of volumes of Acme Novelty Library and then the Jimmy Corrigan’s graphic novel, the Smartest Kid on Earth (winner of the Eisner and Harvey Awards, the Guardian First Book Award and of Angoulême, the most important festival of comic strip) and the visionary Building Stories, book of the year for the NYT Book Review, Time Magazine, Washington Post.

A work that transcends the boundaries of graphic novels to form – a sort of box game with stories to build – and content. The exhibition “Il palazzo della memoria” at the Fondazione del Monte will present a survey on the Ware’s complete works, from the plates and original designs of Building Stories, from the beginning to the most famous works.
