Designed by General Design, the Fred Perry Shop in Tokyo is composed of staggered floors located at various heights responding to the difference in ground levels on the site.

This is the Fred Perry’s world largest flagship shop, which recently opened in Tokyo. The site is located at a distance of a few minutes-walk from Omotesando, with the site area of 397 sqm. The large-scale shop space, appearing as if having being converted from an old warehouse or an art gallery, is composed of staggered floors located at various heights responding to the difference in ground levels on the site.

The interior is immersed in soft natural light throughout the day, with the light filtering through the northern skylight on the saw-tooth roofs and traveling through the void space in the center.

The sectional composition allows one to see all floors from everywhere in the shop. Each floor is given a distinctive color scheme by modifying materials carefully, while all floors are integrated to create a space, which may be termed as “Fred Perry’s house”, where the brand’s view of the world can be fully experienced.

Materials used in this shop are: dark chocolate colored bricks comprising exterior finish on the concrete walls, made at a kiln factory in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture; black-painted steel window sash; oak and laurel (inspired from the laurel wreath brand logo) flooring; plaster finish applied on-site from wall to ceiling; terrazzo floor and others.
