Elina Määttänen
Elina Määttänen’s collection, finalist at Festival d’Hyères 2015, is created by the interweaving of references that span from the Japanese kimono to the military flight suit.
Elina Määttänen is fascinated by the Japanese ideology that within rules and boundaries, you can find security and freedom of creativity.
To implement this into her design process, she based all the garments on a same pattern, a combination of pressurized military flight suit and padded winter kimono.
Elina Määttänen collection 2015
By limiting the cutting-patterns, Elina Määttänen was able to focus more on materials, creating a soft and hugging feel with techniques and textures, such as hand weaving, hand pleating, padding and shibori-dye. The work of the young designer – a 2014 graduate from Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture – expresses her interest in workwear, military and winter coats, clothes that bring security.
