Giulio Iacchetti’s Ademar

#108 The simple design of Iacchetti’s Ademar tables collection, in wood and marble, for Bross belies sophisticated join and bevelling details. #salone2015

Ademar is a table collection with an important name that reveals its manufacturer’s roots. Bross is based in Cividale del Friuli, one of the famed capitals of the Longobard realm.

In Longobard, the name given to the Ademar series means “great for the nobility”, suggesting a programme of large tables with a convivial focus. The ellipsoidal or round top – available in marble, oak, walnut or heat-treated oak – allows diners to look directly at each other and talk amiably.

Two sophisticated construction details feature in these tables: a connection joining the legs and top; and a progressive reduction in top thickness. The need to bevel the outer extremes to make the top thinner produces sharp edges and, in the case of the ellipsoidal top, makes it hard to guess its true thickness.
