Created by the Hyundai Advanced Design Center in collaboration with US kinetic artist Reuben Margolin, Helio Curve is a maxi installation that merges the world of mathematics with the complex dynamism of nature.
Margolin describes the creation process behind his undulating installations as an act of “orchestrating movement”, for example by regulating the interaction between different pulley systems in which every single block plays a crucial role.

To produce a flowing movement, the structure’s various chain reactions must occur in fluid succession and every block must perform its role flawlessly. This is what occurs in Helio Curve, a kinetic sculpture that moves incessantly, adopting different forms as if animated. The project centres on the dynamism and harmony between single wooden blocks connected to each other to convey the rhythm of nature.

“Fluidic Sculpture” is a transposition of the Hyundai design philosophy which features a design process inspired by the constant dynamism of nature and that transmits a sense of fluidity to the car. The installation forms part of the larger global project “Sculpture in Motion” for which the car manufacturer works with several artists asked to interpret the “Fluidic Sculpture” theme in ever new forms and expressions that connect with its audiences.
