Stab Im Brett

Using 4mm wide framed edge and a steel wire, young designer Leonard Aldenhoff created a wallshelf that appears as light and pure, with a clear structure.

The wallshelf Stab Im Brett was created by Leonard Aldenhoff within the scope of a university project called Storage, coached by Steffen Kehrle.

In this context Aldenhoff studied shelves which are hanging down from the ceiling or are attached to walls. During the design process he decided to build a wallshelf because it is much more useful, stable and easier to handle for consumers in view of installation.

The final product and the shelf itself should demonstrate three main characters: lightness, purism and a clear structure.

The form of the shelf makes it look very delicate, because most of the time you only see the 4mm wide framed edge. Its stability comes from the sideways positioned steel wire, which
is varnished and available in various colors. At the same time it can be used as a backing for books, DVDs etc.

The name Stab Im Brett is derived from the German proverb stein im brett which means something close to “to be in somebody good books” or “to be well in with somebody”. So it is a positive attitude and at the same time you can take it literally – the steel rod is going through the board.
