Water bikes and wooden tricycles, but also reflections on its cultural, technological and aesthetic evolution over recent years in relation to urban space, among the articles selected for this week Best of, dedicated to the bike.

“A bicycle is not only a vehicle, but also a collector of high and low technology, low and high tech materials that convey community values” said Salvator-John Liotta in his review devoted to Raiooo – a vehicle conceived by MA Integrated Design students of Viana do Castelo Polytechnic that promote a new concept of urban cycling in social groups normally excluded from it.

For that reason there are many problems that designers have to addres to and resolve when they faced this theme: Industry, with Ti Cycles, designed Solid, a connected, 3d-printed titanium, lifestyle bike that brings together old and new manufacturing methods to inspire everyday cycling; Sandwichbike, by Dutch designer Basten Leijh, is a wooden bicycle inspired by the concept of flat packing and home assembly; born from the two designers of BSG shared passion for cycling, WOOD.b is a handmade bike in which the harmony of wood and steel allows it to be solid, comfortable and dynamic; finally the Schiller Bike, made out of anodized aluminum and stainless steel, enables people to have a dynamics and safe biking experience on the water.

Among the accessories, the lightweight, simple cycle stand Hook designed by Note Design for manufacturer Nola, seeking to add a few bold details to a functional staple of contemporary urban life, and the Double O Bike Light, inspired by the form of the bicycle and the fluid motion of cycling, by Paul Cocksedge Studio.
