The London based office of Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien is working on a new seating collection for Moroso, to be presented at the Salone del Mobile 2012. The cream colored sofas are inspired and named after Chandigarh, the first planned city in India, in which Le Corbusier famously designed some of his most striking buildings.
"We see Chandigarh sofa
as the coming together of modern, sensual, graphic and eccentric qualities," say Doshi Levien.
According to Moroso, "the principles
of modernism, seemingly incongruous with the city of Chandigarh and yet deeply
rooted in it's identity, inspired Nipa and Jonathan to create a quintessentially
"modern" seating collection with an up to date approach."
"The Chandigarh sofa is soft and comfortable, yet compact, visually sharp and light. The
seat is moulded foam, upholstered in leather or canvas with a print design by Doshi
Levien that pays homage to the city of Chandigarh."
