SaloneSatellite: Superfarm
An installation that proposes alternative urban lifestyles centred on urban farming.
What will be the role of the designer in 50 years? This is the question asked by the Salone (celebrating its 50th anniversary this year) and answered by Hafsteinn Juliusson from Iceland and Joana Pais and Rui Pereira from Portugal. With their installation at the Salone Satellite, these three Master students of the Scuola Politecnica di Design suggest that attitudes and lifestyles will change. Designers will end up designing (and proposing) more processes than products and, as
by 2050 80% of people will live in large metropolitan cities, the urban farm might be the answer and provide a new living model. With Superfarm, an iconic and ironic installation, the three designers illustrate a new way of cultivating and consuming food in the city, surrounded by greenhouses, courtyards, windmills and supermarkets.
