Out of all the collective's hugely interesting projects, our attention was especially drawn to two lights designed by Matti Syrjälä. The Loiste (literally = sheen) lantern, glass with an ash-wood handle, combines the charm of traditional Japanese lanterns with the bare minimalism of northern European design without losing a sense of mobility and the potential for use outdoors as it can be recharged and works without an electrical socket. The other is the Loimi (warped) suspension lamp in aluminium and ash wood, the rotund shape of which suggests a dual ceiling and floor use. ES
