Design delikatessen

Paola C. shows a collection of eight table objects designed by five students from the Libera Università in Bolzano.

After the Royal College of Art in London, Fabrica (the Benetton Group's communication research centre) and Tongij University in Shanghai, , Paola C. next asked students of the Atelier Prey, Faculty of Design and Art, of the Libera Università in Bolzano to come up with a tableware collection. Their research centred on several themes – eating habits, good table manners and the world of objects linked to the food sphere - and was developed in three subject categories: health, structures and cultures.

The University's students worked under the guidance of Kuno Prey, in collaboration with Paola C. and with Aldo Cibic as art director. ES

The series of containers and centrepiece Legami by Marco Ciceri (with Massimo Lunardon) derive from the ancient technique of “glass blown within a cage”. The glass blower blows the delicate, slender glass within a series of metal wire “cages”, each of which differs from the next, creating a transparent skin that takes on an absolutely individual form. Each object is thus a unique piece.

Cuore (Heart) by Liviana Osti (with Massimo Lunardon) is a set of carafes for wine and water blown borosilicate glass. It reminds that one should drink the same quantity of water as of wine. The pair of carafes for water and wine combined in the form of a heart.

Staylight, the grater for the table in the form of a paper plane, by Liviana Osti, not only carries a small piece of Parmesan cheese, but above all reminds one not to overdo it terms of quantity.

Borrowing from the tradition of Max Bill and the Ulm school, the Three centrepiece (in burnished and waxed metal and maple wood stained with aniline) by Max Edelberg makes play with triangular elements which join together to create light, elegant concentric forms that seem to float on the table.

The fan centrepieces by Maximilian Tora are made of slender sheets of metal, cut on one side into innumerable blades that overlap and are fixed together with a copper rivet. This results in a concave structure able to express an interesting formal tension.
