The point of this workshop (held by Dutch designers
Goodspeed, Finn Ahlgren and Joy van Erven, from 25
until 31 July 2010) was to work really fast,
focusing on the sketch instead on the finished product by
randomly assembling different materials to make lights.
Because everything was done as fast as possible, the
pieces had an element of excitement, fresh thinking and a
sense of original conception – before planning or over-
thinking compromises an idea.
The experience is stimulating – a rapid leap from instant
idea to actually producing an object with found material
and a time limit! Godspeed designer, Finn Ahlgren took
participants on an adventure in design, opening up
possibilities and encouraging fast-paced decision-making
which they found exhilarating. The next time there is a
design problem to solve, perhaps a quick think and
immediate action will get results!
From early June through late September 2010, the
Domaine de Boisbuchet, an idyllic country estate in west
central France, provides again the venue for the renowned
series of architecture and design workshops, founded by
Alexander von Vegesack, founding director of the Vitra
Design Museums. For fourteen years, internationally
established artists, designers and architects have led
courses on current themes in architecture and design on
the 150-hectare terrain located in the triangle of Poitiers,
Limoges and Angoulême.
Detailed descriptions of the individual workshops within the
three areas of focus (Material as an inspiration and
challenge; Sensitizing the perception; Questions of
sustainability) as well as the list of all thirty-two
workshops can be found on the Boisbuchet website:
www.boisbuchet.org
The registrations are still open for the workshops which will take place in the next weeks.
