Athletia, a new skin care brand launched by the e'quipe cosmetics company, asked the Japanese design studio founded by Sato Oki to build their new store. In addition to using natural ingredients, the company considers the theme of sustainability by using natural vegetable essential oils for 90-100% of the fragrances, and using 90% or more recycled glass for the glass containers and making plastic containers with biopolyethylene, a raw material made of sugar cane. The three values of the brand - balance between movement and quietness, inner beauty and compassion for the environment - were, therefore, also required in the design of the store.
The balance between movement and quietness was expressed in the design of displays in different and stratified materials, kept in delicate balance. Natural materials such as linseed oil, pine resin and sawdust make up 94%-98% of the flooring, making it biodegradable to all intents and purposes. The base of the floor is partly derived from recycled polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from used agricultural plastic film. Recycled materials from ceramic factory waste account for 43% of the tiles used for counters and worktops. Some of the terraces consist of shattered and reused glass from defective Athletia glass containers and glass fragments from the production process.
In addition, on the ground floor of the store characterized by a reduced depth, nine wooden panels have been made, blackened, to partially block the view from the outside, otherwise unobstructed, of the entire interior of the store.
