In the London neighborhood of Islington, the architectural firm Gundry + Ducker is seeking a new harmony for a 1970s terrace. Built on a plot of demolished old Victorian villas, the house was penalized by the contradiction between the neo-Georgian style facade and modern interiors. To resolve the inconsistency, the new project has redesigned the entire structure as a contemporary interpretation of Georgian style.
A contemporary interpretation of the neo-Georgian style

Built following the original techniques of the period, a cantilevered staircase helps to emphasize the entrance with a monumental touch, while a new volume on the back of the house offers more room for the kitchen. Given the impossibility of implementing any roof extension, the floor levels have been redistributed over three stories in order to gain surface area. The cladding, on the other hand, has given Georgian style a contemporary flair thanks to the use of marble and terrazzo, which extends from the floor to the stairs.
