In the mid-18th century Gian Battista Piranesi engravings invented landscapes made of dramatic details and strong contrasts, mixing together the real and the fantastic, classical ruins with ancient monuments and the architecture of the time. This is the inspiration behind the Stele line of stools, a project resulting from the collaboration between the multifaceted American-born artist Niccolò Morgan Gandolfi and the Bologna-based design team Doodesign. Gandolfi works with natural elements and traditional materials, creating a bridge between past and present. The seats take the form of ancient ruins scratched by the patina of time which, stacked one on top of the other, form real columns, as if we were among the ruins of an ancient theatre. Entirely terracotta handmade, they have an internal structure in perforated phenolic wood to ensure breathability and durability over time. The stools are coloured in iridescent shades and crowned with soft cushions in cotton, silk, linen and velvet.
