Japan. A new confectionary turns the neighborhood into a social center

Schemata Architects’ confectionary brings life back to the Gunma district by offering a different model from shopping malls.

A Japanese confectionery store renovated by Schemata Architects, in Gunma, brought back life in a “building site” neighborhood not frequented due to the work. The area for sweets does not need much space, rather space can be used for socializing. The neighborhood is a place for shopping and from a structural point of view tries to counteract the ease offered by shopping mall and online purchases. The live shopping experience is highly customizable, compared to online purchases and the default world of shopping malls. A strong point in this sense is the expansion of the space that projects from the inside outwards. The characteristic bricks create seats, and the usability of the space, even from a social point of view, is increased by the presence of a dehors with plants and a warm and intimate look. Open space in transparency creates an experience of square and vitality.
