Studio Appétit: Elixir

Presented during Design Miami 2013, Elixir. Drinking History is designed by Studio Appétit. A world of potions that takes us back to different periods in human history by evoking our subconscious memory of scents and flavours.

Studio Appétit: Elixir
Studio Appétit constantly searches of innovative ways to create new experiences by combining design with food, taste and eating.
In this new project, they were dealing with the question: Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could get a glimpse of a different era not through books or images, but by consuming a piece of that history?

Elixir is a world of potions that takes us back to different periods in human history, by evoking our subconscious memory of scents and flavours. Potions have been an integral part of the human experience throughout time.
They were concocted for remedy, worship, magic, and bonding. The Elixir potions explore food history and consist of a mix of herbs, spices and fruits that bring to life tastes and flavours from long gone eras and cultures.

These ingredients are infused and consumed using the Elixir product collection, which was hand crafted using glass, wood and leather.

The collection itself was designed as a-historical, providing a clean slate to experience the different worlds of taste.

The potions are packed in hand made textile transparent pouches, dividing each element in a separate compartment allowing the users to identify each ingredient.

The pouch size is design to fit the collection’s carafe, and it is good for 4-6 cups.

The collection includes: a carafe with a simple clean shape, inspired by an hour glass, completed with an African walnut cap that compliments the shape, and keeps drink warm; sphere glasses, completely round with a whole for drinking, that can be held by 1 or 2 hands; a tray, the base of this “time machine”, with a 3D geometric terrain that emphasizes the fluidity and constant movement of time, yet still staying in structure and grid; a leather strap, used for holding glasses when pour hot remedies; a stirrer, designed for easy mixing in the deep carafe.
