Christopher Dresser. A design revolution

The exhibition season opens at the Victoria and Albert Museum with an extensive retrospective dedicated to Christopher Dresser (1834-1904). A century after his death, the exhibition meticulously describes the career of one of the pioneers of industrial design, who was the first designer able to create a new category of objects for what was then the emerging culture of consumerism.

The collection of over 200 objects (in metal, ceramics, fabric, glass and wrought iron) bears witness to his attempts to exploit the aesthetic potential of industry and produce designs that were functional as well as attractive, at prices affordable to the middle class. E.S.
