Sottsass and Olivetti, 20 years of design at the Pompidou Centre

The twenty year long collaboration – running from 1960 to 1980 – that linked Ettore Sottsass with Olivetti of Ivrea is the subject of an exhibition at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Taking advantage of a recent donation made by the designer himself, a display has been put together of technical drawings, sketches, photographs, typewriters and calculators.

From the first Italian calculator, the Elea 9003, produced in 1958 in Pisa and winner of the Compasso d’oro the following year, it covers the major successes of the Austrian designer, born in 1917 – including the Valentine typewriter (1969), the first to be coloured, bright red, with its ‘bodywork’ in abs.
