Murakami’s pop world brings colour to the Vuitton brand

The new collaboration between fashion designer Marc Jacobs (art director for Louis Vuitton) and pop artist Takashi Muratami (born in 1962 and originally from Tokyo) acts as confirmation of the convergence of the two worlds – no longer so far apart – of fashion and art. A collaboration which Jacobs described as “quite explosive, free spirited with a wonderful contemporary pop artist”.

The aim of the legendary French fashion house was give a younger feel to its image, with the famous gold and brown monogram present on bags, suitcases and other products. The result? The two letters “LV” in 33 different colours on black or white backgrounds, mixed with a number of the manga pop characters of Murakami – flowers and eyes on for example the Murakami bag – have given life to a coquettish, frivolous and sensual collections which will be in the shops as from March.

In April, the Louis Vuitton space in Omotesando (Tokyo) will be holding an exhibition of work by the Japanese artist. Previews can be seen on the web site.
