Peter Pfeiffer

from Quattroruote 540/October 2000 A difficult legacy, that of Peter Pfeiffer who in April 1999 succeeded as head of design of DaimlerChrysler, a character of the calibre of Bruno Sacco. Pfeiffer, aged 57 originally from Karlsbad, arrived at Mercedes in 1968. Today from the office set within the austere styling centre of Sindelfingen, he directs a team of 320 designers also spread around other studios in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Lake Como. So what will Mercedes design be about in the coming years? “presenting vehicles of innovative conception destined at niche markets, made to measure for clients. This will reinforce the sense of identity of the brand, but at the same time will accentuate the character of each model. For the design of the interiors we will concentrate on easier commands, the integration of information systems and a more prestigious look. The client should have more fun driving”.
