Daniel Arsham’s eroded turntable pays homage to an iconic 1990s case

The sculpture, created by the artist in collaboration with the luggage brand Rimowa, will be available in a limited-edition starting Oct. 7.

"Eroded Turntable in Pilot Case" is the new collaboration between American artist Daniel Arsham and German brand Rimowa. The work consists of a handmade sculpture of a turntable made of plaster and crushed glass stored inside the iconic Pilot case.

The Pilot Case was launched by Rimowa in 1994, originally designed for airline staff because of its compact and practical shape. Unexpectedly, its popularity increased exponentially among DJs, who have been using Pilot cases to protect vinyl and mixing equipment since the 1990s.

The limited edition of 500 pieces will be available from 7 October at 12 noon (ET) on the artist's website. Each Pilot sculpture and case will come with a pair of customized artwork handling gloves, stickers and a holographic label certifying the edition number and authenticity.

This is the second collaboration between the Rimowa brand and artist Daniel Arsham, who reinterpreted the Rimowa Classic Attaché in 2019.
