In 2015, the German photographer Stephen Zirwes began photographing private pools in America and South Africa, portraying them from a helicopter. Thanks to the use of a drone, in the most recent series of Pools, made in Europe, the German photographer managed to get a lot closer to his subjects and take pictures a few meters from the ground. While the first series of shots focuses on the pools of private homes, the second shows public facilities. In this way the author wants to highlight the social and cultural differences between the two continents. Once photographed, pools are abstracted from their original context. A material fragment becomes a recurring pattern in which the pools are immersed.
