In January 2018 there was the launch of contemporary art business Lazinc’s new two-storey gallery space in the heart of London Mayfair. The 4,000 square foot site opened its doors with “GIANTS – Body of Work”, a solo exhibition of internationally acclaimed French artist JR’s installation work. Having worked with JR since 2008, Lazinc’s new exhibition aims to celebrate the launch of the new gallery, as well as ten years representing the artist.
As well as showcasing sections of JR’s GIANTS series displayed during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 (a group of 3D large-scale photo interventions depicting athletes in action), the exhibition offers a playful look “behind the scenes”: through mix media works ranging from never before seen preparatory notes, architectural drawings, prototypes, and photography, the visitors are able to view the artist’s process from start to finish, from studio conception to outdoor execution. In addition to the gallery exhibition, an entirely new image was used to recreate a GIANT installation on the exterior of the Lazinc gallery on Sackville Street for the opening of the show. Founded back in 2006 by British contemporary art specialist Steve Lazarides and later joined by prolific art collector Wissam Al Mana, Lazinc promotes a disruptive artistic practice at the forefront of the contemporary art scene – e.g. left-field, pioneering artists such as Banksy and Keith Hairing – and has earned a robust reputation thanks to internationally acclaimed projects in New York City and Los Angeles along with solo exhibitions, art fairs, and museum collaborations across London and Europe.
